A comical illustration of a Plague Doctor reading in German ‘Doktor Schnabel von Rom’ (Doctor Beak of Rome) alongside a satirical macaronic poem in Latin and German reading ‘Vos Creditis, als eine Fabel, quod scribitur vom Doctor Schnabel’; roughly translating to ‘a funny tale is disclosed, by a doctor with big nose.’ The engraving is from 1656, by Paul Fürst.
